When Jan and Klaas Smit were thinking about the future of their dairy farm, they kept asking themselves the same question: how can we make our business more sustainable and also reduce our dependence on external energy sources?
At their business in Rouveen, they saw opportunities to make better use of the space and natural energy sources at their disposal. The aim was clear: not just to consume energy but to generate it themselves too. This led to the plan to gradually work towards a fully self-sufficient energy supply.

The strength of the solution lies in the combination of both systems. While solar panels mainly generate energy during the day, the wind turbine generates additional energy throughout the year. This gives the business a stable energy supply that covers its energy consumption needs.
